Abbreviations used during the Great War period |

The use of acronyms or abbreviations in documents can often lead to frustration and possibly ambiguity for the researcher. My research focuses on logistics and the ASC and the abbreviations in this list have been taken from documents of the War Office, Army Service Corps, Ministry of Munitions and other miscellaneous official documents. They are therefore known to have been in use during the time and not devised by historians at a later date. Undoubtedly, The Royal Engineers, Royal Navy, Royal Flying Corps, Royal Air Force, Royal Artillery and the Regiments, etc. will use their own specialised abbreviations & acronyms and these are only included when found in documents relevant to my research. This is simply because there are more than enough ASC and related documents still to view to outlast my lifetime. The list cannot be taken as being every abbreviation ever used and is added to as and when new abbreviations come to light. Civilian abbreviations have been included when relevant. |
